The Essentials of Composite Indicators and Scoreboards: Theory and Analysis

This is a one-day course which covers the basics of indicators, scoreboards, and aggregating indicators to build composite indicators. Indicators are widely used for monitoring national and EU policies, as well as tracking global trends in complex concepts such as innovation, culture and sustainable development. The ten steps of composite indicator building will be covered, including statistical analysis. Practical examples will be given using the JRC's Excel-based "COIN Tool", which builds and analyses composite indicators. The course will be given by the JRC's Competence Centre on Composite Indicators and Scoreboards.
