EWA-BELT - Enhancing East and West African Farming Systems

Global Food and Nutrition Security

The EWA-BELT project aims to sustainably intensify agricultural production in organic, agroforestry, mixed-crop and livestock farming systems in 38 study areas across six countries in East (Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania) and West (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Sierra Leone) Africa.

The research will be carried out on Farmer Field Research Units (FFRU) using a participative approach. Issues to be covered include improved traditional crops, integrated pest disease management including post-harvest control of mycotoxins, land restoration, and development of indicators for economic, social, and environmental assessment of impacts.
